I just want to quickly document something (it's 1:21pm PST 7/18/24).
Months ago, an Israeli friend of mine asked me who I thought would win the next US Presidential election. He was waiting for me to say "Trump" or "Biden."
I said, "Gavin Newsom, unfortunately." *
I could tell by the bewildered look on his face I needed to elaborate.
First, I had to explain how it was possible for the governor of a failed state to somehow get "promoted." Even from war-torn Israel, he knew what a dumpster fire California had become.
As a recent example of how bad it is: yesterday Elon Musk announced he is moving both X and SpaceX out of California. The last straw was an insane bill signed by Newsom which prohibits school districts from directing their schools to let parents know when their child declares themselves transgender. All of the Democratic establishment believes they should raise your children, but Newsom's California is the vanguard.
That's an anecdote, but here is the bottom line: In spite of all the inherent benefits California has, including its massive first-mover advantage in tech and other growth industries, a net of 75,000 people left CA in 2023. And the pace is probably higher in 2024.
So, how does the Kim Cheatle of governors become President? Answer: our corrupt media and our short-attention-span culture. Most of our media, especially the places where casual voters get their information, will gloss over how bad California has become. Actually, it won't even come up much. Ridiculously, the guy applying to be Chief Executive of the world's largest economy won't have to address how he, as Chief Executive, has ruined the world's fifth largest economy.
The media will promote him like nothing you have ever seen. And swing voters, who are almost by definition not critical thinkers, will buy it. They are simply bored by both Trump and Biden. Their attention spans are the length of a Tik Tok video. This fresh Hollyweird creation will "go viral." In our shallow new millennium, policy positions don't matter; what matters is what's trending. And soon Newsom will be trending. His polished but vapid sound bites don't hold up to scrutiny, but there won't be any scrutiny.
Finally, I had to explain how it was possible for the person winning all the primaries to not be the Democratic nominee. Well, the simple answer is when they preach and scream about "Democracy" what they really mean is elitist tyranny. I said at the time Biden will fall off his bike again (can you even imagine them letting him get on a bike at this point?) or something similar and it will become impossible to cover up for his deterioration. Little did I know they could no longer concoct a drug cocktail potent enough to get him through a 90-minute debate.
As I have mentioned before, they think they know best. They are happy to let us rest in the delusion we are raising our own children and choosing our President, but when push comes to shove, the Democratic party power brokers will wield their self-granted veto power.
Vetoing them and restoring power to the people is really what this election is about. THEY (not Donald Trump) are the Threat to Democracy.
*It may end up being Kamala rather than Gavin, because it's hard for these identity politicians to look past a DEI hire to nominate a white male. And, more importantly to them, if they ditch Harris it may be difficult to get to all the money already raised for the Biden-Harris ticket. In that case, simply replace the California discussion with the border failures (btw, Kamala did help Gavin and Willy Brown ruin CA).
